Things out side school:
LEAP: http://leap.wikidot.com/
This is a course from ASEN (Australian student environmental network-join them once u get to uni) i believe mostly Melbourne Uni though(by that i mean uni students, young people). I took part in this last year, so much fun. oh yeah and u get to do awesome stuff to like dumbstering u heard me dumbstering well its not actually part of the program but we did it anyway. I REAL REAL encourage everyone even if u don’t have the time to get involved. Its extremely cheap as the uni kindly covers most of the cost. oh and did I mention the girls..... Mac rob too (ah Melbourne high).....
So in short it’s awesome:
Also VISEN (Victorian inter school environmental network) came out of this.
The Leadership in Environmental Action Program (LEAP) is an innovative environmental leadership and education program for high school students. In 2008 LEAP was awarded a Telstra Environment Award and is currently a finalist in the Melbourne Awards and the Pride of Australia Awards.
It is a four-day conference held in Melbourne each September. This year it will be held from Saturday 20th September until Tuesday 23rd September.
The conference involves:
guest speakers including 2008 Young Environmentalist of the Year Larissa Brown, and 2008 Young Victorian of the Year Dan Adams;
workshops and presentations led by young environmental leaders and environmental professionals;
excursions to native forest and sustainability 'hot-spots' in Melbourne;
mentoring; and
planning sessions where students plan their own environmental projects.
Participants at LEAP gain knowledge about environmental issues, contacts and networks in the environmental field, career advice and mentoring, and support for their own environmental projects.
LEAP is supported by the Foundation for Young Australians, the University of Melbourne Student Union Environment Department and the Australian Student Environment Network.
LEAP is a winner of the Telstra Environment Awards, and was profiled on Channel Ten News on Thursday 31st July.
If you are in years 9 to 12 you can apply to attend LEAP!
